Alternative Milk is one of the newer Golden Bean categories — it first appears in our records from 2021, reflecting the reality that a large and growing share of Australian café orders are made with oat, soy, or almond milk. The challenge for roasters is different: non-dairy milks have less fat and different sugar profiles, so the roast profile that works with full-cream dairy often doesn't translate. A medal here means the roaster optimised for the alternative, not just tolerated it.
