Why we built this
A sale sticker doesn’t tell you it’s a good price.
Like a lot of Australians after COVID, I moved the office home, upgraded the coffee machine and went hunting for decent beans. Finding good beans online that weren’t supermarket beans was harder than it should have been.
To see who had actually won awards, you had to download PDFs from the competition sites just to spot a roaster you recognised. Then you had to work out who was local, and whether the price was any good. Every roaster runs a sale sooner or later, but unless you know what a kilo usually costs, 20% off can still be expensive.
So I built the place I wanted to exist: award results and prices together, with every price on the same footing, per kilo, against the rest of the market.

We track deals and prices from 300+ Australian specialty coffee roasters, from their websites and their newsletters.

We compare the prices
The Bean-o-Metre puts 150+ roasters' kilo prices side by side, so you can see who offers the best value.

You buy direct
Click through and buy direct from the roaster at the sale price. We never hold your beans.

What a kilo really costs
We take each roaster’s middle price for a 1kg bag and compare it with the middle price across 150+ specialty roasters. Subscriptions and supermarket brands are left out. A roaster that doesn’t sell a kilo bag isn’t scored.
Reverence: 18% below the market. Vacation: 13% above the market. Brewhouse Coffee: 8% below the market. Sensory Lab: 3% above the market. Aussie Veterans Coffee Co: 7% below the market. Bean Cartel: 0% above the market

Priced well under what most specialty roasters charge. Next to an award badge, this is the sweet spot.

We drink lots, but don’t taste-test
Our job is the price. For quality we lean on the judges, so award results sit next to every price.
