Sprocket Roasters
About Sprocket Roasters
Sprocket didn't start with a barista. It started with a couple of Aussie farmers turned chemical engineers, a viticulturalist with an MBA, and a Canadian expat with a law degree. Drawing on engineering and farming backgrounds, they designed, patented and built their own coffee roaster. It runs on bioenergy - spent coffee grinds, husks and recyclable pellets - rather than fossil fuels. The aim is to cut environmental impact as the bean travels from producer to cup. They opened in 2009 and now roast from a warehouse in Lambton, Newcastle, powered largely by 62 solar panels. The beans are sustainably sourced, 100% Arabica and single-origin, roasted to order. As they put it, it comes down to two passions: quality coffee and a healthy planet.
