Massimo Zanetti was born into a family of Italian coffee merchants. Buying his first roasting plant in Bologna in 1973 felt like destiny. Segafredo was born, with a mission to spread Italian espresso around the world. In 1999, Segafredo Zanetti Australia opened as a daughter company, bringing real Italian espresso to the Australian market. Today the Melbourne base sits in Coburg, seven kilometres from the CBD, with a showroom, barista training and machine service. What sets Segafredo apart is ownership. It runs its own plantations worldwide, controlling how the coffee is grown and how farmers are treated — housing, medical facilities and schooling included. Quality is guaranteed from plant to cup.
