Mocha Coffee

Who is Mocha Coffee?

Mocha Coffee began in a Newtown deli in the summer of 1958. Greek migrants John and Irene Mannassis put all their savings into The Olympos, a European delicatessen in Sydney's inner west. John and Irene often greeted customers with a cup of Greek/Turkish-style coffee. John watched how much people enjoyed it and started blending to suit individual tastes. Home grinders were rare, so he sold it ground. "So began Mocha Coffee." The first blend for restaurants followed in 1987. In 2000 the business moved to Marrickville, NSW, where it roasts today. It's a family business, now in its third generation, and siblings Theo, Maria and Paul share 84 years of combined coffee expertise. They roast blends and single origins, buying mostly from smaller-scale, ethical and sustainable farmers. In their words, it's "the craft that comes from a family... not a factory."
