Who is White Whale Coffee Roasters?

White Whale began in 2010. Ali, an environmental scientist, and Steve, a carpenter, left secure jobs to chase one dream — their own coffee roastery and espresso bar. They liquidated their assets to fund it, set on building Far North Queensland's specialty coffee scene. In 2014 they moved to their current home in Portsmith, Cairns. The business rebranded from Industry One Coffee to White Whale in 2019. The name nods to Migaloo, the rare white whale that travels the coastline — a reminder to protect the oceans. That thinking runs through the coffee: ethically sourced, specialty-grade, roasted with care. Fifteen years on, the mission hasn't changed.
