It started on the Northern beaches, pulling espresso as a young barista. The passion grew from there. The turning point came in the jungles of Papua New Guinea, tasting a coffee that was bold, smooth and free of bitterness. That discovery became The Laughing Pug. Today the beans are roasted in Burleigh Heads on an Italian-made roaster, slow-roasted to a medium brown. The focus is single-origin PNG Arabica from smallholder farms in Morobe Province, grown between 800 and 1,200 metres. The cup leans smooth and creamy, with chocolaty notes and a hint of nut. Most roasters stick to the same few origins; The Laughing Pug built its range around beans you rarely see. Six flavours cover most preferences, including a Swiss-water decaf.
