Who is Red Bean Coffee?
Lou and Laura started out roasting coffee at home in Melbourne, 300 grams at a time. In 2009 they took their beans to the Melbourne Farmers’ Markets. After that, they knew this was “a journey we had to begin”. They first opened Red Bean in Thornbury, where they lived at the time. Today Red Bean Coffee has a pet-friendly café at 121 Plenty Road, Preston. They roast high-altitude Arabica, with origins including Nicaragua, Rwanda and Brazil. Sourcing runs through all of it. They choose Rainforest Alliance certified and Fair Trade coffee. Fair pay for farmers is, in their words, their “utmost priority”. They have donated $24,335 to charity so far.
