Neli Coffee might cup 15 coffees and buy 5. Or none. That is their pre-purchase rule: sample roast and cup the lots under consideration before any get near the roaster. Neli is a family-owned and operated specialty roastery on the Redcliffe Peninsula, around 30 minutes north of Brisbane, roasting in Clontarf since 2008. Beans come through Australian brokers and direct trade with farms, from Colombia, Brazil, Papua New Guinea and Rwanda. The roast aims to enhance the origin flavours, not cover them. Post roast, every batch is destoned and packed into recyclable bags, with reusable tins for many customers. The aim from day one was to make freshly roasted specialty-grade coffee accessible and affordable. For home buyers, that means five house blends, including a Swiss Water Process Decaf, plus Jetty Blend capsules that are Australian made, home compostable and Nespresso compatible.
