Manta Ray took 1st place at the ECRE Roaster Smackdown in 2019. The win came from both the professional and public judging. The result followed years of groundwork. 8 went into learning to roast, and an earlier 8 into running cafés. They credit the crew at Code Black for much of their coffee knowledge. Their motto is "the devil's in the details". They colour-sort their roasted beans. The roastery is always on display, and you can hear the machines at work.
