About Maker Coffee
MAKER began with John and Stephanie Vroom, two hospitality professionals who fell for coffee, service and community. Their first venture, Ora in Kew, opened in 2011. John roasted small batches at night on Bessie, a one-kilogram roaster, while Steph built a service style around warmth and clarity. That mix of curiosity and hospitality became MAKER, established in 2015. Today they roast in Richmond on a Probat UG22 and serve across five Melbourne cafés. The ethos stays purist: no co-fermented coffees, no additives, just coffee for what it naturally is. Single origins come from Ethiopia, Kenya, Peru, Colombia and Guatemala, sourced through long-term relationships. Subscriptions are flexible and ship Australia-wide from the Richmond roastery, with free regular shipping over $70.
