About Garage Roasters

It started in 2012 with a small Taiwanese drum roaster and a steep learning curve. The founder, who trained as a medical doctor, admits some early roasts were dire. Thousands of roasts later, the method clicked: balance flavour, mouthfeel and acidity, and treat coffee the way a scientist treats a problem, one variable at a time. By 2015 the hobby became Garage Roasters, a family-owned roastery sharing coffee beyond family and friends. A bigger roaster and a website followed in 2022. Today the focus is single origins, with a soft spot for African and Colombian beans. The coffee has earned medals at Golden Bean and ships in fully compostable satchels.
