Who is The Beansmith?
Anthony Loberto is a mechanical engineer. In 2007 he founded The Beansmith. In his words: "I wanted to source high quality coffee with an ethical supply chain, roast it using my deep understanding of the process and make the business an exemplar of sustainable practices." Today The Beansmith roasts in Cygnet, Tasmania, freshly every week. It believes "anything worth doing, is worth doing properly". In 2018 it founded the Cygnet Feast, which passed to a new not-for-profit in 2023. Sourcing runs through just two coffee merchants. Within that, The Beansmith has sought to buy from the same producers each year. The coffee is specialty grade, typically 84+ points. Farmers are paid a quality-based premium. Packaging has been compostable since around 2010. And the roastery sends no organic waste to landfill.
