Who is Santos Coffee Company?
In 1969, a young medical student named Nicholas Avramides was on holiday with his father. Watching local vendors make fresh coffee, he was fascinated by the process and care. He'd seen nothing like it anywhere else. He came home and finished his medical studies. Then in 1973 he bought Santos, a 17-year-old food company, from its founder's widow. Established in 1956, Santos is still family-owned and run. It roasts in Riverwood, Sydney, from a 5-acre facility and head office. The coffee is premium Arabica, sourced directly from growers. Santos describes itself as the longest established continuous coffee roaster in the country. Its pitch is simple: "Life's too short to drink ordinary coffee."
