Fulvio Pagani emigrated from Italy in the 1950s. In 1964 he started Rio Coffee with a 10kg roaster and a blue Volkswagen van, blending, roasting and learning about coffee day by day. Six decades on, Rio is the oldest coffee roasting house in South Australia. It's still family-owned, still roasting to order. The roastery sits in Stepney, Adelaide. Rio focuses on single-origin coffee and long-term relationships with its green bean producers, striving for sustainability at origin. Those relationships run local, national and international, and clients keep coming back. Roasting is the craft. Relationship building is the trait that has kept the business going.
