Who is Numero Uno Coffee Roasters?
When a partnership broke down in 2005, Gina Di Brita "did what Gina always does: she backed herself." She booked a flight to Milan and walked into Brambati SPA, a coffee roasting equipment maker. She commissioned a custom 30 kilogram roaster, built to her exact specifications. Her first signature blend was tested at Pablo's Vice, a Sydney espresso bar with plenty of willing taste testers. The result was Picasso, a blend of beans from Colombia, Costa Rica, Brazil, Honduras and Sumatra. It remains Numero Uno's most popular blend. Today Numero Uno is based in Sydney, with a brew bar in St Peters. Gina named the business for the people she puts first: her team, customers, suppliers and small-holder farmers. Where possible, they buy directly from origin growers and pay above the C-market price.
