Malgudi Days began with a mother and son. The son had set up his own roastery in Sydney. His mother still missed the South Indian filter coffee she grew up with. So he set out to recreate it for her. He studied and cupped for years. In 2012, his blend won a silver medal at the Golden Bean Awards. But for his mother, the ultimate judge, something was still missing. He kept perfecting it until the day she tasted it and was home. They named the blend after R.K. Narayan's short stories, set in the imagined South Indian town of Malgudi. Today the beans come from the Bababudan Highlands of South India, roasted in small batches in Sydney.
