Who is Kahawa Estate Coffee?
The farm behind Kahawa Estate was established by the Webber family in 2004. Seth and Michelle Wreyford later bought it "to return to our passion for farming," and they're continuing the legacy the Webbers started. The name reflects their African heritage. Kahawa means coffee in Swahili. The farm still grows K7 Coffea arabica, a variety that originated in Kenya. Today the estate is based on the Alstonville Plateau in the Byron Bay hinterland, northern New South Wales. Growing, processing, hulling and roasting all happen on the family farm. Beans are roasted and packed once a week. The focus is single origin, Australian-grown coffee from trees in volcanic soil, grown free from pesticides. As the estate puts it, they're involved "from seed to roasted bean."
