It started with a van. In 1998, Bernadette Stack sold coffee from one known as The Cappuccino Queen. Ten years later, she and Trevor De Groot opened Espresso Royale, an organic coffee house on Magill Road in Adelaide. They roasted their first batch of single-origin beans in a shed out the back, in 2008. Today De Groot Coffee Co roasts in Port Elliot, on South Australia's Fleurieu Peninsula. The approach is unchanged. Single-origin coffee, roasted with a long-term view, built on quality and relationships rather than trends. Trevor and Bernadette have worked the SA coffee community for almost 30 years. The Port Elliot cellar door is open if you want to taste it at the source.
