Who is Artis Coffee Roasters?
Artis began with a love story. Ali met Ella in 1999, and a shared love of coffee grew into a roastery. Ella comes from a long line of wood roasters, going back to 1905. Her father, who Artis calls "the first pioneer of Wood Roasted Coffee in all of Australia", passed the technique down to Ali. Today Artis is based in Marrickville, NSW. The fire is still wood, now paired with computerised technology for precision. No gas, no chemicals. Their case for wood is about oil. The fire's higher humidity, they say, helps the bean keep its natural lipids. Gas roasting can strip them away. Subscriptions are contract free.
