Soul City Roasters
About Soul City Roasters
Soul City Roasters began in 2015, when founder Ben Cosford set out to combine roasting coffee with a way to employ refugees and people doing it tough. Ben had been roasting since 2009, after watching his father-in-law roast beans in a popcorn popper. Like many start-ups, it began in his garage, in the Salisbury region of South Australia. Working as a pastor alongside the business, he saw how hard it is for refugees to enter the workforce without local experience or English. Today the Adelaide roaster sources only through known farmers and wash stations, a model it calls relational trade over fair-trade certification. Every roast is specialty grade, profiled one at a time using artisan methods. And $1 from every bag goes to refugee support.
