Leigh spent 15 years as an engineer before a moment of clarity sent him a different way. He bought a coffee roaster, started roasting, and Beat Coffee was born in 2014. Today it's a Melbourne roaster based in Reservoir, built around what Leigh calls the endless search: chasing the things that drive you, coffee and music among them. The engineering background sharpened the craft. The playfulness keeps it honest, because coffee doesn't have to be taken so seriously to be delicious. Beat roasts single origins, blends and filter coffee, and makes its name on cold brew, including a nitro that holds up in an espresso martini. There's a Roaster's Choice subscription too, with espresso from $60. Serious about the coffee, relaxed about everything else.
